a different kind of art gallery. a third space.

What is a Third Space?

A third space (or, third place) is a place where individuals can gather, relax, and engage in informal social interaction and community building.

Third spaces are where we can both affirm our own identities and build empathy for identities different from our own. When we connect with members of our community at third spaces, we can find people who share racial, ethnic, linguistic, religious, sexual, and gender identities with us. It can be incredibly affirming to find people who have identities similar to our own in our own community, so that we can share experiences and support each other. At the same time, third spaces allow for a space to meet people entirely different from us. We can meet people from different cultures, backgrounds, and life experiences, which encourages us to empathize with people of different identities. We can learn about the experiences of those different from us and use our resources to support our community, standing in solidarity no matter if we share an identity or not. Third spaces make us feel as if we belong to a society bigger than ourselves.

What is our Third Space?

Our goal is to build relationships and community through art. To create connections between people and reimagine the different ways we can connect. To provide platforms for shared experiences, expressions of different identities, and promote dialogues and understanding between different groups.

We intend for our inclusive gallery space to foster a sense of belonging and community that is accessible and welcoming to people of all backgrounds.  To be an informal and unpretentious place free of exclusivity and intimidation.

We believe our regular visitors will help create a welcoming and familiar atmosphere. We hope people of all backgrounds will come here to experience a sense of comfort, belonging, and connection similar to that of their home.

The artwork displayed in this space will provide platforms for dialogue, conversation, and interaction. It will challenge traditional notions of exclusivity within the art world by promoting diversity and providing platforms for underrepresented voices.
